Here we go again!
Yesterday, my awesome publisher at Jupiter Gardens Press let me know that my second sexy short story in the Her Hollywood Hero series was officially released!! Yay me!!

Been a good week!
So it has been five days since I published my first short story on Smashwords. To get my name out there, I decided to post the story for free.
And it seems to be working. From Sunday evening to Friday evening it has been downloaded over 200 times. I was also pleased to get my first review:

In other good news, I now have a release date for the second installment of my Her Hollywood Hero series. Part two, Catch a Fallen Star is due to be released on May 30th from Jupiter Gardens Press. If you want to read the first story featuring Allure and Gavin, you can read about their meeting in the first story, 12 Steps to Desire. Now on to story three!!

Self-published on Smashwords!
So I finally figured it out, formatted my story and played with a cover...then published Bound and Determined, a sassy, sexy, short story on Smashwords. Within 24 hours, it has been downloaded over 60 times. And to make it more accessible to fans of erotica - I made it free!! Check it out and please, leave me a review...this way I know you enjoyed my writing!

Getting 'Smashed'
I sit here on a Saturday night, formatting my Smashwords profile and account. I am finally going to try and set this up so I can self publish an e-book. Hopefully this will prove to be another step in my road to more readers.
And to help build a fan base, I have decided to use a short sexy story that's lots of sassy fun. And I have made to choice to provide it at no cost. Yes, I said it...free! I want more people to read my writing and get a sense of who I am. I want my readers to want more, so they will buy more stories and maybe, one day, a full length novel.

Support...denied
When I first told my friends about my book contract everyone was so very excited for me. They were all going to buy the story (short story) and support my writing.
On release date I sent emails, posted on Facebook and tweeted my little fingers off! Sent the links, posted a blog entry or two and updated links as it became available first on my publisher's site - Pink Petal Books, then on Amazon.com and then on Smashwords.
Again, friends announced their support and intention to purchase the story - at $1.99 on my publisher's site and only $2.49 elsewhere - it is not a huge financial commitment.
So in the last few days I got my sales report for the first month and...complete disappointment! Only four copies sold...and one was to my mom! While I did realize that not all of my friends would get it, I had hoped for more support than this.
We shall see how the next couple of months go, but this is really giving me pause for thought!

Getting it out there...
So, for the first few couple of weeks, my story 12 Steps to Desire was only available through my publisher Pink Petal Books on their website.

Reading Shayna
Since last summer, I have able to write stories for the erotica section of Good Vibrations blog site: www.goodvibesblog.com. It has given me a way to expose readers to my writing. Search for:

Learning the Ropes
No, this is not a post about Japanese rope bondage or pony play! Sorry, but those might come later ;)
Shortly after my first officially published story was released by Pink Petal Books, I was asked why I had made the decision to go through a publisher as opposed to self/e-publishing via a platform such as SmashWords. Given that going it alone can result in more money for the author, why did I take the path of less compensation?
Having already done the pros and cons about my options in this open publishing age, I had no trouble at all in explaining my choice.
First off, I wanted a chance to work with a publisher on a project, even one as small as 12 Steps to Desire. Even if I never publish anything again, I will have met this one personal goal. Now that being said, more stories are on their way.
Secondly, in my mind, it was a greater challenge to write something a professional publisher would accept. It made me up my creative game. Now, I have to admit that this opportunity came earlier than I had expected to and for that I am incredibly thankful to Mary Wilson at Jupiter Gardens Press! And to be asked if I had plans to write more stories with the same characters was definitely a boost to my ego. The second is on its way and plans are in the works for numbers three and four.
Third, I am very new to publishing and the erotica industry and wanted an experienced hand to guide me through the process.
Finally, I have - over the past year and for research purposes - purchased and downloaded a wide range of erotica. I have a nice collection of hard copies and my Kobo is burdened by a substantial library of erotica. Some are published through the many companies out there but the bulk are self published, uploaded and available to low, or no, cost.
Now, as an English Major and Communications specialist [day job], I am very keen on grammar and spelling. While some of the independantly posted stories are exquisite tales of sex, seduction and kink, there have been more that could have benefited from a second, or third set of eyes. And that is perhaps the biggest reason I wanted to work with a publisher - to ensure the stories that mean so much to me can be the best they can be, by someone who does it for a living.
Now even though this was my choice for now, I do plan on takng advantage of electronic publishing, maybe even in the near future. But for now, I am thrilled with my choice.

So it's a New Year!
It's been quite some time since I've posted here. The big news is that I was pulled away by a short story that was picked up by Pink Petal Books, an imprint of Jupiter Gardens!!!
And it was officially released today!
